Travel agencies registered on UK based travel commerce platform Travelport will have access to 6,000 hotel properties aggregated by OYO Rooms. Under the tie up, 68,000 registered travel agencies on Travelport from both India and other foreign countries will be able use OYO’s hotel booking platform directly without third-party influence.
Using it, companies can now avail hotel rooms on discounted rates. Called OYO for Business, these air-conditioned rooms will be equipped with flat-screen television, free Wi-Fi, complimentary breakfast and 24×7 customer-care support.
Mumbai-based Noesis Capital Advisors, a hospitality advisory firm, has filed the winding-up petition. As per the filing, OYO Rooms failed to pay more than Rs 1.5 Cr to Noesis.
This will facilitate payments for hotel bookings for OYO’s customers. The partnership will help OYO tap potential consumers who do not have access to either a debit or a credit card. The companies did not disclose the financial details of the partnership. ItzCash will offer access to OYO Rooms through an online co-branded portal and offline outlets, a network of 75,000 plus network of retail touch points across India.
This is the company’s 5th round of funding. Softbank, Sequoia Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Greenoaks Capital, DSG Consumer Partners and Venture Nursery participated in the round. The company will use to funds for domestic expansion.
PayPal on Tuesday announced their tie-up with OYO Rooms. Under the tie-up, PayPal will help OYO Rooms source secured payments from global consumers and help Indian consumers make international bookings. OYO Rooms recently forayed into the international market by launching their operations in Malaysia. The partnership with PayPal will enable Oyo Rooms’ customers across the globe to pay for their bookings in Malaysia and other South East Asian countries via PayPal.
Ixigo has launched “ixibook” which will allow travellers to make bookings for flights and hotels within its app without being redirected to a third-party app or website. ixigo has collaborated with Cleartrip and OYO Rooms as its launch partners for flights and hotels respectively. ixibook allows a user to book a flight or hotel in just one tap. Post-booking customer support is handled directly by the respective partner, ixibook will be launching on iOS & web platforms in the coming weeks.
Rail ticketing service- IRCTC, and India’s branded network of hotels- Oyo, have partnered to provide passengers an added facility of booking OYO hotels on the IRCTC website. IRCTC OYO hotels will feature amenities just like any other oyo rooms and rooms will be available starting from Rs 999.
ZO Rooms earlier raised $30mn led by Softbank. The two companies have used a lot of guerrilla tactics to market themselves against the other, especially when Zo did some cheesy ambush campaigns during Oyo’s app launch. In fact, the two companies have taken the battle to court as well in the past, so be assured that this merger is purely driven by investors and not founders.
Branded budget hotel room aggregator OYO Rooms has started international operations and forayed into Malaysia. OYO joins a number of Indian startups which have expanded globally. Practo, Zomato, PrintVenue and FlatChat have operations internationally. In India, OYO Rooms has scaled to offer 40,000 rooms in its network. OYO Rooms operated as Oravel.com and pivoted its business from an Air BnB clone following operational issues.
