It is a Chrome extension that inspires travellers and instantly compares travel deals across travel sites. Earlier in beta, the plugin has now been fully rolled out to ixigo’s user base and works on the desktop version of Chrome. ixigo’s inspire plugin opens each new Google Chrome tab and helps you find the cheapest deals on hotels and flights.
The operators will work to display the lowest fare within 2 minutes. This service will be available in NCR, Jaipur, Agra, Chandigarh, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Jammu, Shimla, Manali, Meerut and Alwar, with plans to expand to all its operational cities over time. Users can also book a one-way ticket. The company claims that it gets over 2,000 cab queries daily with an average ticket size of Rs 6,000.
It can work even in places without an Internet connection or GPS, such as airports, railway stations and bus stations. The feature is available on ixigo cabs, a meta aggregator of cabs, autos and ground transportation services. Users can book cabs from providers such as Uber and Ola. ixigo uses a combination of intelligence about the user’s location through existing PNR confirmations on a user’s phone and SMSes for when the internet connection doesn’t work to seamlessly book a cab for the user.
The platform lets brands reach out to train travellers contextually and helps them discover apps and deals relevant to them. Over 20 brands including Amazon, Flipkart, Paytm, Freecharge, PepperTap, DineOut, BlaBlaCar, UrbanClap, Cleartrip, MakeMyTrip, Spicejet, TravelKhana and Twigly have signed up for it to market their apps and deals to Indian train travellers.
Ixigo has launched “ixibook” which will allow travellers to make bookings for flights and hotels within its app without being redirected to a third-party app or website. ixigo has collaborated with Cleartrip and OYO Rooms as its launch partners for flights and hotels respectively. ixibook allows a user to book a flight or hotel in just one tap. Post-booking customer support is handled directly by the respective partner, ixibook will be launching on iOS & web platforms in the coming weeks.
Truecaller has launched an SDK called TrueSDK, that will let app developers verify users via their phone numbers and login using their Truecaller profiles. The SDK, which will also enable developers to update a user’s information, has launched with 12 partners including CarDekho, Quikr, OYO Rooms and ixigo. As of now the SDK is Android only and is available to registered third party apps. Truecaller mentions that the SDK will require user permission before verifying their identities. The SDK is free for developers to use.
Travel search marketplace IXIGO has launched a new meta-search called ‘Super Value Hotels’ on its website. The Gurgaon-based company has curated collection of 2500 budget hotels across 80 cities in India. The Micromax-funded company claims to have affordable room-rates ranging from Rs 599 to Rs 2499. Ixigo’s new search compares deals across branded budget hotel providers such as Oyo rooms, Vista Rooms as well as independent hotels in all the major cities of India.
Ixigo has acquired Desi Backpacking Travelers, that runs IndianBackpacker.com, for an undisclosed sum. The portal provided a platform for Indian and foreign backpackers to share articles and photos of their trips in India. Its co-founder Akshay Chhugani will join ixigo as head of its new segment on traveller communities.
