The 5/20 rule mandates airlines to have five years of domestic operations with a fleet of at least 20 aircraft to become eligible to fly overseas. It has been replaced by the 0/20 rule which makes its mandatory for an airline to have at least 20 aircraft to fly on overseas route. Etihad-backed Jet Airways, InterGlobe Aviation’s Indigo Airlines and SpiceJet are opposing it.
